Lori and Randy

Live Performances

I miss performing — the connection to the room and the transcendence that can happen on a great night. I hope to return to the stage again soon, perhaps next fall or early spring. Time will tell.

My partner of many years, Randy Rayment (saxophone, flute, percussion, producer), has been ill for some time. His endurance for performing is now limited, but he can still record in short spurts. Caring for him has allowed us to spend these days together in a meaningful way — reworking songs, creating new ones, and completing music that had been waiting patiently for its moment.

I have always trusted Randy’s ear. He has a wonderful instinct for production, so after the writing is done, it’s often off downstairs to the studio.

Over the years I’ve come to realize that Randy’s advice - ' To stop practicing the same old mistakes' - reaches far beyond music. In its own way it speaks to life itself — a reminder not to get caught repeating the same old patterns, but to stay present and learn the deeper instrument we are all playing. More than twenty-five years ago, I met Randy on Valentine’s Day. After hearing a few songs from my notebooks, he told me he would love to produce my music — and just like that, a musical partnership began. Soon we were working on our first recording project, The Front Porch Diaries, spending many afternoons sitting out on his deck in the sunshine, going through my tattered notebooks and choosing the songs that would become the record. It was a magical time — open to possibility and guided mostly by instinct. Now, all these years later, we find ourselves returning to the songs once again. This project is not simply about recording music. It is about honoring a creative partnership, a long friendship, and a life deeply intertwined through song. Even now, after all these years, Randy still hears the music first, and in those quiet moments when he is able to record, his spirit continues to shape the sound of these songs. And perhaps, when the time is right, those songs will find their way back into a room full of people again. Because life is the instrument, and the songs are how we learn to play it.
